Public Service Announcement: Things NOT to say...

My rule is simple: If you wouldn't say it to me when I'm not pregnant, please don't say it to me when I am pregnant...

"I wasn't sure you were pregnant, but you were looking wider in the hips, so ..."
     - Thank you.
"You hadn't told me you were pregnant, but your face was looking fuller ... and you look tired."
     - Tired? really? I can't imagine why...
"Twins?!  No wonder you looked bigger already!"
     - Again, thank you.
"Every time I see you I feel sorry for you!"
     - {too many things to think here...}
"Your life is about to change, girl!"
    - This may be my favorite.  REALLY?!  Had no idea!!
"Twins?! Your life is over!!"
     - I like to think of it as starting something really awesome!
"Better you than me!"
     - If that is your attitude, then, yes!  Probably better me than you!
"Wow, twins?!  That is going to be so hard!"
     - Well, since having 1 baby is hard, then 2 probably will also be hard.  Thank you.

To end on a positive note, these are some of my favorite (good!) things said so far:

"Twins are NOT for pansies!" (from a father of twins)
"You will learn to do heroic things in the middle of the night!" (from a mother of twins)

To close, please remember this simple rule when you encounter an expecting mom (of 1, 2, 3 or 4!):
If you wouldn't say it to me when I'm not pregnant, please don't say it to me when I am pregnant.

This concludes our PSA for the day.

Registering...Whew!

Hello everyone, and Happy December!!  This is my favorite month of the year - all of the Christmas music, goodies, gifts to buy and wrap, the fun time with family and friends, and of course, the celebration of the birth of our Savior makes me so thankful for December every year!

Chris and I started our Christmas shopping early this year, and we are proud to say that we have most of our presents bought, wrapped, and placed under our tree - they are ready to make the trek home to Orlando with us in a few weeks!

Something that we usually don't do in December is register for baby items (and two at a time, at that!)  Yesterday, we embarked on the baby registry journey ... a first time for us, and thank goodness for our dear friend, Anne Anderson, because she came with us and showed us the ins and outs of Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby...and it only took a mere 6 hours!! :)

It's the little things like bottle liners to match the few types of bottles that you should probably try out, pack and plays that have ample diaper storage containers and a changing table attached (since we live in a 3-story town home), swaddle blankets (there are about 3 kinds that I have seen so far...) teethers, diapers (they make about a million different brands with bells and whistles), and the dreaded stroller drama, that make registering for these 2 little babies quite complicated!  And yes, friends, strollers made for two are heavier, more complicated and more expensive - go figure!  I have to plug the staff at Buy Buy Baby for a minute (a fabulous store owned by Bed Bath and Beyond that just came to the Atlanta area: http://www.buybuybaby.com/)... The guy that helped us at Buy Buy Baby was wonderfully patient and knowledgeable about twin strollers...and spent about an hour with us telling us all the pros and cons of tandems and side-by-sides, etc.  We left the store still not having registered for a stroller because Chris and I need to deliberate a little more (a very "Chris" thing to do) :) but at least we know a lot more about twin strollers than we did 2 days ago!

Thanks to Anne, we ended up finishing our registries at Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby and Target yesterday.  Of course, Chris and I have some items to tweak online now that we are of sound minds again (we were all a little delirious by hour 5 yesterday) but we feel so much better now that we are pretty much finished!  And I have to say that my husband was very patient throughout the whole process - I gave him the option to stay home, but he really wanted to get the lay of the land at the baby stores (since I am sure he will be making multiple trips there after the bundles of joy arrive!) and he really is just one of those sweet husbands that wants to be involved.  Needless to say, we both slept very well last night!
